Things that make you go ...

A little extra on Mr. Flanagan's shenanigans. I've got it on good authority from an anonymous source that after Bruno Rubio had his lease terminated for Azucca, Flanagan suddenly raised the rent for Rubio at Pollo Criollo. And by 'raised' I really mean' doubled.'

Interesting, to say the least.

Something ain't right ... and the dots are beginning to look like they may be connected.

So this guy is basically rent-gouging?

If this is indeed true, then I suppose it would be considered some form of rent-gouging.

Ridiculous. Actually, this is beyond ridiculous. It's re-donkulous.

Y'all...
Here's the straight scoop as I know it... and by strange coincidence I do know it.
The store has been rented (the lease includes Bruno's restaurant) at great expense to new tenants, who, when Bruno's lease expires (in thirty days, more or less)
want(ed) him to leave. They are upset that they can't even get a car into their gas pumps because his food is so wonderful the place stays packed. It's all about the parking.
They, however, are not assholes, they're friends of mine. And they are willing for him to stay as a carry-out, catering or to-go place.
They are renting the whole show, including his restaurant, and he has been amenable to negotiations. The rent they're asking is half of their rent. He had a low cost, doing a favor kind of rent, really nothing (under a thousand dollars) because it was supposed to be temporary, until he got his new place.
It is not rent-gouging to renegotiate the rent when A) the lease ends and B) what was supposed to be a temporary arrangement is suddenly not and C) someone else is footing the bill for your utilities, and needs room to park!
Please be nice to the young couple who is paying a bloody fortune for the rent on that whole corner, and don't take it out on them that they want Bruno to pay his fair share of the gigantic rent.
