Well, that's off-base
Well, if this isn't laughable.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but a newsmaker of the year should be someone that actually generates news. You know, someone that makes you say 'wow' or something.
No offense meant toward John Isner, but he didn't exactly set the world on fire.
I mean, there's being different to make a point ... and then there's being different just for the sake of it.

I totally disagree and get frustrated how this town only pays attention to football. Sure, Knowshon might have made you sit up in your seat and say "Wow," but I have yet to see a complete quarter of a football game this year, so the you tube video was pretty much a yawn to me.
I have no idea if John Isner is the most deserving athlete, but it certainly seems that he accomplished a list of things that a tennis player (and fan of the game) might say "Wow" (I am neither).
I hand it to ABH for at least trying to break away from the football centric mentality of not only Athens, most alumni of UGA, but even their own sports page.
P.S. Happy New Year.
Football only would be bad. Football centric sounds about right.
The caveat I would add is that this is a very astute town when it comes to sports, particularly UGA athletics. The Lady Bulldogs have a very strong boosters group, while the Gym Dogs and baseball team garner lots of attention.
Similarly, the men's tennis team gets it due in a good way. It's arguably one of the three most renown programs in the country, routinely hosts the NCAA Championships and features a very fervent following.
My point was that if the category is 'newsmaker of the year' then Moreno generated more buzz - both in headlines from the ABH and from the community at-large - than Isner did.
P.S. Happy New Year to you as well.
