Good, I think

In the 'maybe it's good news department' ... John Kerry just endorsed Barack Obama.

Yay. I guess?

UPDATE: Of course, this means little outside of Massachusetts, which packs little punch when it comes to delegates. I'd argue that the endorsement of Obama by Sen. Tim Johnson from North Dakota, a popular moderate Democrat in a red state, is more valuable and suggests that Johnson, as well as others, feel Obama would have a more positive impact on the overall Democratic ticket than Hillary Clinton (something I don't disagree with). Still, the only endorsement that truly matters would be that of Al Gore, and I think he'll probably sit out out of respect to the Clintons. Common sense, though, would dictate that he'd line up more with Obama, but I wouldn't be stunned to see him back John Edwards and make this thing really crazy.

Run, Barack, Run. Far away from Senator Kerry.

Whose John Kerry?

Seriously, how many people you know out there will all of a sudden say, well shoot, I was undecided, but since John Kerry says vote for Barack, then I will do just that.

Please. You might as well have Governor Baldacci endorse him. It might matter as much.

I think endorsements do matter.

This one probably means more in the backroom kind of setting as Obama is seeking credibility and working to cut into Clinton's superdelegate lead.

But, I would argue that endorsements matter more on the local level (where you'd have access to the supporters, fundraising networks and field operations of the endorser), and that only prominent figures can as well.

For example, there are still a good number of individuals out there who still wish Al Gore would run for president. If Gore endorsed either Clinton or Obama, it's more than feasible that those individuals would lean or support the endorsee.

I agree with a lot of your response - but no one wants Kerry to do much of anything. So his endorsement is pretty much worthless.

Endorsements for endorsements sake really doesn't get very many votes. So I would tend to argue that endorsement from individuals that vast numbers of people respect (you give a great example with Gore) do matter. But washed up, has beens are worth the carbon dioxide that they expel.

Darn lack of proof-reading on my part. That last sentence meant to say "aren't worth the CO2"

Tim Johnson is from South Dakota. The senators from North Dakota are Byron Dorgan and Kent Conrad.

I think it's just John dearest trying to remain relevant, I hope it doesn't hurt Obama much. I think it would be a big deal if Al came out for Obama, but when is someone on this blog going to mention the fact that Sam Nunn, and several others met up last week to discuss the race? There were a lot of Chamber of Commerce types there, and big pharmies. Anyone know more about that, and what they're thinking? Rumor has it there's an effort to get Bloomberg to run.
Weird rumor or the DLC and all the "status quo" folks getting freaked out at the very idea of an Obama/Edwards ticket?
Have to wonder...
