The discussion continues

Well, damn.

Blake does some high quality work regarding NABF, and elicts a lengthy comment from Athens-Clarke County District 10 Commissioner Elton Dodson that's also worth reading.

That post, and Dodson's comment, help reaffirm something that I've been wondering for quite some time now ... and that's whether or not the existing progressive power structure in town is splintering. It's quite clear some division is going on right now, and that's worth keeping an eye on. There were some disagreements over the Comprehensive Land Use Plan and the role of the citizen committee, and this NABF thing has blown the lid off the whole thing.

Dodson, even in his comment, hinted that he only had 10 months left in office, which makes me wonder whether or not he might seek re-election.

Glad Elton and our other leaders are standing firm on this. Amazing how much misinformation and fear is being generated on this project.

Who in their right mind would want to be a commissioner in ACC?

Without a doubt, Athens is one of the best places in the world to live IF you are a left-leaning twenty-something unmarried childless health care worker.......those with children, values right of center, married, or looking for gainful employment often find Athens unhospitable.

Meanwhile, back at the commission, they continue to debate outlawing chewing gum in public spaces and whether or not to allow mad cow disease into the drinking water supply.

sheesh

Yep, I'm married with children, and it's awful here. It's amazing I can get out of bed each day and live in such a terrible place with the nice quality of life and compassionate neighbors and happy baby ... what, with all the puppy-clubbing going on in the streets.

sorry, should have said, "married with children attending public schools who can afford to move out of the county"

call me when your kid is entering middle school, I've got a house in Oconee that would be PERFECT for you

I'm married, have two kids in public schools (one in middle school), and we could easily afford to live in Oconee County. We choose not to. (If you want to find the best middle school math teacher in the area, you have to look in Clarke County.)

I've got nothing against Oconee or Jackson or Madison... I just think the advantages to living in Clarke outweigh the disadvantages. I also think some of the issues regarding the schools are greatly overstated.

JMac, you run in District 10 and I'll run in District 6.
