Um, wow
You know, here I was about to write a somewhat positive post about Rep. Paul Broun in that despite our vast ideological differences, I honestly respect how he approaches his job and the work he does to stay in contact with his constituents.
Then I went to his web site and watched the intro, which reminded me of a trailer for one of those Left Behind movies. Seriously, that's pure fearmongering at its best, and on a level that's so pathetic and comical I laughed out loud.

Like you, I like the congressman personally. He likes to fly fish, so he can't be all bad.
But seriously, he ran a quiet but effective campaign and beat out a much crappier establishment republican last time.
But this crap is laughable. And I would have thought it beneath him.

Exactly.
He's a good guy I think, it's just that we disagree on some things. This video, however, is disappointing.
Have you guys been bombarded with mailings from the Congressman? Oddly, my wife has received mailing after mailing; none have come addressed to me. I must be on some "wacked-out left wing weirdo" list that my wife is not.
Or maybe it's a medical industry thing...

Dude, seriously. It's a campaign website, not his house.gov website. Lighten up.
Good point re industry, Billy.
Bombarded with mailings is right. I got three this week alone, all letting me know that I've paid for them, too. I want to know where the "fiscal conservatism" is in that? And how much is it costing us to send out all this junk? Seems awfully hypocritical to me to argue against bills for being too costly, but then to accrue a massive bill on fluff mailers to keep the constituents "informed."
I voted for him against Whitehead because he seemed to sincerely believe what he said, and I totally cheered that first vote against the DOJ taking money from California because they wouldn't comply with the federal laws on weed (seriously, it's medical, dude, step off). However, after all the pro-Christianity legislation (while claiming government intrusion in religion is bad to support his "bold" vote of present on recognizing Ramadan) and telephone calls and mailers at my expense, I'll be voting for whichever of his opponents makes a bigger stink about his hypocrisy. Why hasn't the media called bulls--- on him for all of it? I really makes me angry to read the Banner-Herald and see them almost being cheerleaders for him. Why?! They're normally willing to call people on this kind of crap.
Yeah, I've got at least 2 letters from him in the past couple of weeks. I shall be sending them back to him w/ a letter telling him what a hypocrit he is. I suggest others do the same.
It's just the nature of the district. If selling the apocalypse works, that's the message the congress critter will deliver. Anything else, and soon enough you'll have another congress critter willing and able to read the appropriate script. Leadership is certainly possible, but that's for after the election.
I disagree with Broun on almost everything, but I don't hold the campaign messaging against him. I'd much rather have him than an establishment robot.
decon
"Establishment robot?" Did no one else get the invitation circulated to them for Broun's high-roller fundraiser in DC? I got it forwarded to me from a friend, along with a note from Broun that he was proud to be supported by the rest of the GA GOP delegation. I think it's about $2500 per PAC to attend. Watch this guy show his true stripes within the upcoming months by becoming an "establishment robot" as all those donors expect a payoff. Don't think they won't. Money talks loudly, and all of Congress is addicted to it!
Paul Broun represented himself inaccurately to get elected...since the election he's revealed himself to be as if not more right-wing than Whitehead (minus the animosity toward Athens), and far more likely to do whatever his theocratic little heart suggests is good. Plus, I, too, am sick of getting his mailers and robocalls.
Funny, but he never responds to my letters to him, most of which ask him to explain why his campaign rhetoric is so at odds with his actions.
