Trade deadline
While I had hoped they'd get Jermaine Dye, the Red Sox landing Eric Gagne as a set-up man is an excellent move.
That automatically gives them the best closing options in the game.

Would've liked another strong bat, but I'll take it. I'm a little worried about the decision to trade Kason Gabbard, though. Dunno how solid Lester will be down the stretch.
You're happy with Gagne? What, is it 2002?
I just know I had Gabbard on my fantasy team, and am pissed.
I'm rooting for Gagne because he seems like a great guy from everything I've ever read about him but I, too, feel like he's past his sell-by date. Plus, has the "two experienced stud closers setting up for each other" experiment ever worked anywhere? There could be surliness over perceived roles before the season's out.
I agree Sara, but I think Lester's gonna be fine. His endurance may not be as strong, but that's where adding someone like Gagne to the bullpen can help out. Plus if Schilling can shake his injuries off and pitch semi-OK down the stretch, I'm not concerned about starting pitching.
I would have loved adding Dye though. Anything to bring a merciful end to the J.D. Drew debacle.
Two words Josh ... Octavio Dotel.
Enjoy that.
I'm somehwat prohibited from hating JD Drew because I'm an FSU alum. Tough spot for me, plus I still miss Trot Nixon.
And getting Gagne to accept a setup role is a great move by the Sox. He can't close effectively anymore but luckily they don't need him to unless Papelbon gets injured or starts to struggle.
I'm bound to enjoy Dotel more than I enjoyed the two words "Kyle" and "Davies." And it ain't gonna matter anyway when Teixeira closes out the season with 84 home runs.
Dang ... 71 home runs in the second half would be a helluva run.
