Either way, it ain't good

Well, this is disturbing. John McCain has hired Bo Harmon, who worked on Saxby Chambliss's campaign against Max Cleland, to serve as his national political director.

Now this is interesting for two reasons.

First, McCain abhorred the type of campaign Chambliss ran against Cleland, particularly the infamous ad that merged Osama bin Ladin's face with Cleland's (in fact, as the post notes, McCain called it 'worse than disgraceful.') If he's aligning himself with someone who put forth such a despicable act, one he at one time denounced, that speaks volumes about his character.

Second, if Harmon had nothing to do with the ad, as Tom Perdue indicates, then no problem, right? Well ...

"The heaviest thing he [Harmon] had to do was buy the peppermint candy to fill the bowl at the front of the office," Perdue told the paper.

So apparently McCain has hired a baffoon to run his ship and that speaks volumes about his judgement.

This is going to be Sen. McCain's biggest problem in this election, at least for now. There's a legitimate disconnect between McCain and the electorate, and that disconnect is measured in frames of reference. Where McCain seems to view these contributors in terms of past elections and politics, the electorate definitely views them as contributors to the sitting administration and its ills.

I wonder if these hirings are a result of both staying within the GOP, and the electorate's lemming run away from the GOP. What self-respecting non-GOP'er would volunteer to work for any GOP candidate in 2008?

I'm growing a little weary of this Cleland As Victim business.

He got beat because he ran a lousy campaign and was wrong on a couple of key issues. It ain't complicated.

You guys act like he was supposed to be Senator For Life. Well, this ain't West Virginia.

And besides, there's a Senate race this year. There was one a couple years ago. There were Congressional races as well. If you guys want Cleland in DC so badly, why did you let him--er--sit out those races?

It's because you'd rather have a victm than a Senator. Nothing higher in the Leftist pantheon a victim.

Mike, except for those who have volunteered to work for Ron Paul.
