I went by today, and both the owner and I held back our tears as we said our goodbyes, she said she hoped I'd stop by again before they closed. What a sad story, obviously, a sad lady, and a huge loss for us here in Athens.
I don't know what she'll be doing next, but told her I hope she knows how much Athens appreciates her and all her years of service to us, and will find peace and joy in whatever she decides to pursue next.
Very sad. But kind of like attending a funeral, a thing I needed to do.
I got the idea that she'd had it w/"red tape", that some sort of issue over the display in front of her store may have been the last straw. But she's not bitter, just very sad. I hope we find a way to honor her, I've been thinking about taking in some healing herbal posies, and a thank you note, leaving them there for her anonymously, so she finds them early in the morning on the last day she opens. Anyone else up for that?
You're right, I am sure. I didn't check the time frame on all that before I started typing.
I was a little too emotional about it to make sure I didn't cross that fine line between personal opinion and journalistic objectivity. Obviously I ain't no journalist, huh?
Thanks for setting me and anyone else who mis-remembered that brew-ha-ha that went on over all that side walk ordinance straight. I loved the frog campaign and may have gotten them confuzzled.

An issue with the display?
I remember when the commission passed the sign ordinance, they did so with the explicit understanding that the rack in front of Barnett's was legal.
