Manny being Manny

You know what I find incredibly comical and also downright pathetic?

People telling Red Sox fans they should hate Manny Ramirez.

The fact of the matter is that for all of the odd antics and showboating the guy does, he still emerges as a better baseball player than 95 percent of the rest of Major League Baseball by operating at half-speed.

He says it's not the end of the world if Boston doesn't win the World Series? Well, you know what, he's right. It's also worth noting that he also said he was confident in his team and that he'd trade all of his records and accolades for another ring (funny how that didn't get played up, isn't it?).

And his long single was a home run.

His long single was not a home run. If a ball hits off the wall on the yellow line and comes back into play, it is NOT a home run. Only if the ball would have hit beyond the yellow would it have been a home run. The replay shows that clearly.

I agree totally. Besides he should have been running - not strutting - down the baseline.

I have no problem losing to a better team - but not a jerk.

Can I point out I loved Fox's comparison of Victor Martinez's trot and Manny's trot, and how the former's was four to five seconds longer?

Nonetheless ... paveplanet, good luck to you and yours tonight good sir. I think you have the edge in the pitching matchup, which makes me nervous.

Same to you. Though the Sox have made the Indians look downright awful these past few games. I too like the pitching match-up (plus Byrd waiting in the wings - forget the HGH issue for the moment), but you have the momentum and playing in Fenway late in the series always favors you.

And it won't be a sports argument if the guy whose team is being beaten by the source of the argument wasn't so good at what he does (at least most of the time).

Of course, throughout the late 1990's, I thought Manny was a really great player when he was bringing it on for the Tribe.

Manny's right. It's not the end of the world. And if those who are criticizing him had lived through the pressure cooker of Boston baseball before they won it all in 2004, particularly the complete catastrophe that was 2003, they'd probably understand what he meant by that.
