Couple of things

- Wanna know why I like Heidi? Because she looks into things like this.

She's also written to Athens-Clarke Mayor Heidi Davison, who said trying to get a ride for (Miriam) Edwards has become a frustrating experience for her as well as Edwards.

After Edwards wrote, Davison investigated the federal grant that funds The Lift. It stipulates that the bus route either can be fixed, use a "demand-response" model, or both. Demand-response means that the bus or van could go to the disabled person's home and not be limited by a fixed route, but that's not the policy Athens-Clarke administrators chose when they got the grant.

Davison said the government can't make an exception to the rules for one person - but also thinks the rules could be changed to help Edwards and others in a similar fix.

Davison said she has written to Athens-Clarke commissioners and to county administrators asking for a review of the policy. Not one has responded yet, she said.

- Pictures and summaries from the Tennessee tailgate are up, while DAve's got the story from The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

- Far be it from me to defend Gov. Sonny Perdue, but it seems to me that Phillip Herold's letter kinda misses the point. I mean, shouldn't we be investing in alternative fuels in an effort to not only reduce our dependence on foreign oil, but also to eventually bring cheaper and more efficient fuels into the game? Isn't that the kind of thing us progressives want to see happen? And if Perdue is serious about making it a reality, than that's at least one thing I wish him well on.

- As an aside, the folks a few tailgates down from us were absolutely dead set on playing Big and Rich non-stop. The number of times we randomly - and unfortunately - broke into Save A Horse, Ride A Cowboy or Coming To Your City were way too many to count. By the way, the latter video is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen.

- It's good to see Washington Farms' petting zoo opening its doors again. I'm needing to get out there and pick a pumpkin, as The Wife and I do each year.
