Yes and no

I have mixed feelings regarding this editorial because while I agree with it, I also kinda disagree with it.

On one hand, I think it's much appreciated that, in lieu of pay raises for state employees, that our state legislators forgo their cost-of-living increases for 2009. Sure, it's largely a symbolic gesture, but it's also made with the right sentiment.

Then again ... it does save only $100,000 or so, which is a drop in the bucket. And the rest of the savings come from six percent cuts across the board, including deep cuts in what should be vital areas of investment like infrastructure and education. At the very least, the lawmakers should have opted to take a pay cut that was equal to what they were asking of each department.
