Whew
Ending what was truly a weird American League Championship Series, the Red Sox pounded the Indians 11-2 last night to reach their 11th World Series. Of course, the score was so much closer than the final tally indicated, and I was on the verge of blacking out from nerves throughout the middle innings.
I will say this about Cleveland ... those boys are good, and I mean good. From top to bottom, they made me more uneasy than those tough Yankees teams from 2003 and 2004. If just one of their big bats was hitting to compliment what Victor Martinez was doing, they would've wrapped this thing up much sooner.
But, I'm glad they weren't ... 'cause now Boston gets to go be the sacrificial lamb to the baseball Goliath that is the Colorado Rockies.

So you think we're gonna lose to the Rockies too? They have scared the hell out of me since before the playoffs began. Totally on fire, plus their park is incredibly hard to play in.
Not to mention we have a huge problem without the DH at Coors Field. Who sits--Youks or Papi?
Hats off to your Sox, JMac. Their hitting dominated the Tribe these last three games and deserve to go on. I too was on the edge of my seat for the entire game (well until the bottom of the 8th). I know it is arm chair quarterbacking, but I still don't understand what Skinner was thinking when he held up Lofton. Lofton is by far one of the fastest and smartest base runners out there and like the announcers said, even if he was thrown out we would still have a runner on 2nd. When you are down by 1 on the road in truly a do or die situation late in the game, conservative actions must be thrown out the window. I really think that play could have shifted the momentum to the Tribe. But then again, if Blake got a hit we may be siting saying what a genius move it was to hold up Lofton. But I would have sent him.
Hey, I was kinda right about the eight though, wasn't I? I didn't have the faith in the bullpen this late in the series and it proved like the correct hunch.
Good luck against the Rockies. Who knows what this seven day layoff is going to do for their momentum. I am going to guess it will hurt them a bit. As long as the Sox can hit them as well as you hit us, it should be a good series. But I give the pitching edge to the Rockies right now.
My boys came through at the end, but I swear that up until the seventh inning it was like I was living through an episode of Survivor.
The whole game was full of odd managerial calls. I was shouting at my TV - as much as a father with a sleeping three-month-old can shout - when Francona left Dice-K in to face Sizemore. Same thing with Okajima in the eighth inning. Or the back-to-back hit-and-runs that killed an early rally.
That, combined with the errors and double plays from both teams, made it seem like no one wanted to win (and get hammered by the Rockies).
I was surprised the Red Sox hit Betancourt as well as they did in the later innings.
And Sara, you've got to sit Youks and hit Ellsbury second. It would be madness to sit the most dangerous postseason hitter in the game.
